Privacy Policy

iOS app SkyDex · Effective August 20, 2026

In short. The app has no accounts. Your photos and colours are kept only on your device and in your own iCloud, and the developer can open neither.

Only three things reach the developer — anonymous usage statistics, feedback you choose to send, and crash reports. Your photos and colours are in none of them. No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics SDKs.

1. Photos and records

Photos you take in the app or pick from your library, the colour extracted from them, the time they were taken and any note you write are kept in the app's storage on your device. They are not sent to the developer and are not uploaded to any server of the developer's. The developer runs no server.

Stored in iCloud

If your device is signed in to an Apple Account, these records are also kept in your own iCloud (Apple's CloudKit private database), so that your collected skies come back if you lose your phone or delete and reinstall the app.

This storage is governed by Apple's policy — Apple Privacy Policy. If you back up your device (to iCloud or to a computer), this storage may be included in the backup; that backup also belongs to your Apple Account, and the developer cannot access it.

2. Location

Location is used for exactly two things:

Only kilometre-level accuracy is requested. The last coordinate is stored on your device; it is never attached to a photo and never sent to the developer.

To get the forecast, this approximate coordinate is sent to Apple's weather service (WeatherKit). That transfer is governed by Apple's policies — Apple Privacy Policy, Apple Weather notice.

The app works fine if you deny location access. It then calculates colours for a default location (Seoul) and draws a clear-sky reference without a forecast.

3. Camera and photo library

The camera is on only while you're photographing the sky. From your library, the app reads just the one photo you pick; it never browses the rest of your library. The app doesn't save photos to your library either.

4. Usage statistics and feedback

If the person making an app has no idea how it's used, they can't fix what needs fixing. So only three things are received. All three go to the developer's CloudKit public database; there is still no separate server.

Anonymous usage statistics

Feedback

Sent only when you send it yourself from Settings → Support → Send Feedback. What you write goes along with the app and device versions. A name and email for a reply are sent only if you enter them; leave them blank and they aren't recorded at all.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or freezes, the developer receives the diagnostics iOS later bundles up (where it crashed, the app and iOS versions, the device type). Not even an installation identifier is attached.

5. What isn't collected

6. Retention and deletion

Records stay until you delete them. Open a photo and tap Delete, or swipe left on it in Records, and that record is removed from your device and from iCloud.

Deleting the app removes its on-device storage and coordinate, but the copy in iCloud stays — bringing your collection back when you reinstall is the whole point of that feature. To remove it completely, delete the records in the app, or delete this app's data in iOS under Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage.

The developer holds no copy, so there's no separate deletion request to make to the developer.

7. Children

This app collects no personal information from any user, children included.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, this page will be updated along with the effective date above. The history of changes remains visible in the GitHub commit log.
