Frequently asked questions
The app can't find my station, or shows the wrong one
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Korea Wayfinder, choose “While Using the App” and turn on “Precise Location”.
- GPS can be inaccurate underground or inside large buildings. Tap the current-station card at the top of the screen to choose your station manually.
- Everything works without location access too; just pick stations yourself.
How do I use the camera direction check?
Once your route is shown, open the camera direction check and fill the frame with the platform sign or the train's destination display (the “To ○○” sign). KORA reads the text and tells you whether that's the direction you need.
- It works best on the Korean text of the sign.
- Signs that are too dark, far away or at a steep angle may not be recognized. Move a little closer and aim straight on.
- Treat the result as a helper. If in doubt, double-check the station signs.
Why does the app ask for the camera, microphone, speech recognition and motion?
- Camera — to read platform signs and train destination displays so it can check your direction.
- Microphone and speech recognition — to understand the in-train announcements (station names and which side the doors open). Recognition runs only on your device; audio is never recorded, stored or sent.
- Motion & Fitness — to sense when the train departs and stops, so the current station is more accurate.
All of these are optional. Route guidance and stop alerts still work if you decline them.
Real-time arrival information isn't showing
- Real-time arrivals come from the Seoul Open Data Plaza and need an internet connection. They're mainly available on lines in the Seoul metropolitan area.
- If you're offline, the line has no real-time data, or the service isn't responding, KORA automatically switches to a timetable-based estimate together with GPS and the accelerometer, and keeps guiding you.
- Route search itself works without internet.
The stop alert came a little early or late
GPS is weak underground, so the current-station estimate can lag. Allowing the microphone lets KORA use the in-train announcements to correct its position. Alerts are a helper, so please also listen to the announcements and watch the station signs.
How do I change the language?
KORA starts in your phone's language. Press and hold a station card on the main screen (your current station or destination) to open the language picker, then choose your language (23 are available).
The Live Activity doesn't appear on my Lock Screen
- Check that Live Activities are turned on in Settings > Apps > Korea Wayfinder (on older iOS versions, Settings > Korea Wayfinder).
- The Live Activity appears once you start ride guidance.
- Closing the app completely also ends the Live Activity.
- The Dynamic Island is only shown on iPhone models that have it.
Which cities are covered?
About 930 stations in the Seoul metropolitan area (Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon, including GTX-A, AREX, the Shinbundang Line and light rail lines), Busan, Daegu, Gwangju and Daejeon. Use the region chips at the top of the station picker to switch cities.
Can I try it before my trip?
Yes. Choose the starting station and destination manually and you can check routes, transfers and boarding directions from anywhere in the world.
